What is a transit in astrology?

Natal chart versus transit chart

How to calculate your current transits
- Gather accurate birth data. Use your birth date, exact time and birthplace when available.
- Create the natal chart. Record natal degrees, houses and the Ascendant and Midheaven.
- Select a transit date. This can be today, a past event or a future date you want to study.
- Calculate current planetary positions. Use a reputable ephemeris or astrology program.
- Overlay the charts. Place transiting planets around the outside of the natal chart.

In astrology, retrogrades are commonly interpreted as periods of review, repetition, internalization or revision. When a slow planet retrogrades across a natal degree, it may form the same aspect three times: once moving forward, again while retrograde and a final time after turning direct.
